New Toy

Kassa got a new toy. It was supposed to be a TUFF toy. I'd say it was 5 min before he tore it open. My wife stiched it back up and I used it as a tug toy. We played.. and then I would come beside him and say drop it. He would. We are going to work on that more.

We are supposed to get some storms through tonight so I snapped a few pictures of one of our trees before the storm strips it of its glory.

I think that handsome boy of yours is starting to lose his greyhound shape.. :-) LOL. He is a cutie. I love his markings.

Katie was very tough on toys.

He has put on a bit of weight for sure. Our vet (who has 7 hounds of her own) said you should be able to see a few ribs and the outline of his hip bones and we still can. When we first got him he droped below racing and she recommended we bring him up above so we increased his portions. I've started cutting back a bit.. do you think he needs to drop more or do you think he looks healthy where he is. :)

He is by no means seriously overweight, but I think he could stand to lose a few pounds. So much better for his joints. He doesn't have much of a tuck up... more of a straight line and his rear, chest, and back look very smooth and round. All of mine tend to weigh about 5 lbs under race weight. Agility does not keep them racing fit so they tend to lose some of the muscle weight and then I just don't replace it with fat. Travis raced at 72, but competed agility at 68. Katie was 62 and she was 57 at her peak.

:) Thanks for the advice. I just want him healthy and happy. Your dogs all fit that healthy happy model. I think Kassa is fit in the sense he gets regular exercise. His cardio/strength are ok because hiking ballparks and some jogging and you can see the muscles rippling beneath, but his frame is solid. He has always had a lot of muscle on his frame. I was just trying to stabilize his weight, but I'll probably have him drop a few lbs, stabilize and then see if our vet thinks he is in a good place.

Also keep in mind that I'm looking at a video, so I am not really seeing a good side picture of him to judge. You definitely have the better vantage point... oh, another good test is to stand behind him and look down his spine. He should have an hour glass figure. If he's straight, he's chubby. I should do a post on weight sometime. I think some groups are really stuck on the 5lbs over race weight and that usually makes them overweight.

Heh .. I'll take some pics from the angles you suggest so that you can have something to compare to for your weight post. Just don't be too hard on him ;)
