Yesteryear

A friend of mine dug up this pic of Kassa (or in those days Kassard B) in the days of yesteryear. Evidently in this pic he is the guy in the rear LOL. I didn't ask her if she had the race card for this pic. I prefer to think he came from behind and won the whole deal. Oh well, he is number one for me now!

Metaphor

Greyhounds are to sports cars as couches are to garages. A sports car looks pretty in the garage, all shined up under the lights.. but that is really only part of the point.

If in this world there are passengers and there are drivers, what role does the guy who throws the ball play? ... Tool?

Greyhounds are to buses what.... oh lets face it .. I really have no idea how greyhounds relate to buses.

Catchup

Well it seems that a number of things have been happening around here and I'm a little behind in my blogging. First and probably most pleasing to Kassa is that we have had some fall weather. This means that the dog park group has started meeting again. We gained a new member last week named Specs . A newer dog always brings a lot of energy to the group and gets their juices going. It was really nice to see the guys all running together.

Specs is a bigger boy. He was showing the other dogs whose who by body checking them when chasing the ball. Kassa seemed to take this in stride (literally).

Not only does the nicer weather result in the group meeting again, it also means the baseball fields aren't quite so busy. Kassa and I have been sneaking in early morning visits and really enjoying them. In the other park when Kassa grabs the ball he has to stop almost immediately because of the fence line. In the baseball park he can run through and gallop around. Its really fun to watch him.

The last thing that went on was the fall greyhound picnic. The group uses this picnic to promote greyhound adoption and raise money for the "Angle Fund". The preliminary results are that they raised enough money to rescue 1.5 broken leg hounds. A really great result IMO.

Give a dog a bone!

HEY Get off your tush and give a dog a bone! (or at least some food!) Post an article relating to the Pedigree Adoption drive and join the blog hop! Pedigree will donate a bag to shelters. See details below. •Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations. Pedigree created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs. •This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a “Fan” or “Likes” The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated. •Special for BlogPaws West: For each blog that posts about the PEDIGREE® Adoption Drive through September 19th, PEDIGREE® will donate a bag of their new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. It’s simple: Write a post, help a dog. •Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19, the Pedigree BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop, to help raise awareness for the “Write a post, help a dog” effort.

Congratulations! to Pat McNeely and Koda

The dog park contest is decided and the dog/owner combo that I endorsed ( in my graciousness after my video did not even make the top ten.. grumble grumble) WON! I almost feel vindicated.... almost.

Seriously though, congratulations to Pat McNeely and family and KODA! You are going to have an awesome dog park built in your area and Kassa and I may just make the journey down to see it.

To view the winning entry visit Koda's Dream Dog Park!

The Ball hunter becomes the ball herder

Kassa is lucky enough to live near a tennis court. Luckier still, there is a wooded area right beside the court. This means balls. Kassa seems to have a 6th sense for tennis balls. We will walk by and suddenly he will stick his nose in the bush, where I see nothing but leaves, and pull out a tennis ball. I should never have to buy a tennis ball for him ever again. We have been doing this for a few weeks so I thought it only right that he enjoy all of his kill thus far. This was actually a pretty funny episode because Kassa tried to gather the balls up onto his bed. Then he would lay down with his conquest and knock half of them out onto the wooden floor. He would then jump up and start to herd them back to his bed. This was probably his most successful moment. I am not sure if his dignity was entirely preserved through all of this but he didn't seem to mind ;)

Checkup

Kassa Now

Well my boy got his shots and a general checkup yesterday. Vet was happy with everything. He is at 65lbs which according to the vet is at the lower end of an acceptable weight for him. No changes are necessary as long as he maintains that weight. They were concerned at 63 and I was concerned at 77 so I balanced him out again. According to his docs he raced at 67 and weighted into the vet at 70 when he left racing. Personally I think he looks good. Lean and athletic. He exercises a lot so I don't want him be carrying around extra baggage which will be hard on his joints. I also think he looks comparable to the other hounds.

In search of Circles

Although I run Kassa quite a bit, I like to give him a break and go for walks as well. He is a good walker and walks right along beside me. I try to choose circular routes however because if we walk a path and then have to literally turn around and walk back, Kassa will start to drag. He doesn't want the walk to stop so he stretches it out. After a few minutes he normally picks up the pace however this can be a bit tedious if we are walking before I go to work. Here we were trying out a different circular route through Crocket Park and it was a very successful one.

Gene Simmons eat your heart out.

Todays blog features Kassa's good friend Tequila who hands down was the most photogenic at our get together last night.

Gene Simmons has nothing on Tequila (aka Mr Rock Star)

Such a sweet boy
