Checkup

Kassa Now

Well my boy got his shots and a general checkup yesterday. Vet was happy with everything. He is at 65lbs which according to the vet is at the lower end of an acceptable weight for him. No changes are necessary as long as he maintains that weight. They were concerned at 63 and I was concerned at 77 so I balanced him out again. According to his docs he raced at 67 and weighted into the vet at 70 when he left racing. Personally I think he looks good. Lean and athletic. He exercises a lot so I don't want him be carrying around extra baggage which will be hard on his joints. I also think he looks comparable to the other hounds.

Kassa at his lightest

Kassa at his heaviest

He looks Great, John. I like to keep my guys within 2 lbs of their racing weight -- usually on the low side, since their muscle mass has declined since then.

I think he looks great and I don't like mine getting too heavy, either. Our male, Hawk, always reminded me of a tall, lanky cowboy. He always hovered around 78 pounds. When he'd get to 80, he'd get sick, lose the weight and we'd start back over. The dog could hoover the food like nobody's business, but he just never kept weight on. I always thought he looked good, though.

While Kassa was still very handsome at his heaviest he looks even more handsome when lighter. Beryl is about 28 kgs now and is a perfect weight as a pet. She weighed 24 kgs when racing and must have been very skinny! Today at the park a young boy kept saying how skinny she was, what would he have thought when she was 4 kgs less!!

Like Pamela, I usually find the best weight for them to be a little under race weight.
