Heel work

We have been down one vehicle for the past week. This has meant no morning runs in the dog park or baseball diamonds. We have gotten in good morning walks and hit the tennis court a few times. In my efforts to ensure my boy stays healthy and active I have found myself exercising vicariously through him. While this is easier than actual exercise it really has none of the benefits. So in efforts to make lemonade I worked a bit on some heeling and got my own fat behind moving as well. Now I know this isn't probably a 'formal' heel but I'm not competing so I'm not going to stress to much about it.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed with YOUR running! And also Kassa's heeling, it looked pretty good to me, great work:-)

Gosh he has very good attention to you or the ball. It doesn't matter which one as long as he stays attentive and happy. I bet he would excellent to teach obedience or rally.

Thanks for the comments!
I think that Kassa is pretty much running the position because he knows I will throw the ball or give a treat at the end. He will hold it even if I put the ball in my back pocket. I trained the position at home with treats but found it useful when we are doing the fetch thing so that he doesn't get in front of me when we are running around and trip me up. I read once that historically they taught dogs to heel on the back left because people wore their guns on the right. They didn't want their dogs to get hit if they had to draw. I guess I don't have to worry to much about that but it is nice not to trip on him ;)
